Calgary Bay - Isle of Mull

For us in the UK it's that time of year again when we start looking forward to a summer  holiday. Whenever I get a break I like to to head north of the border to Scotland. I've already written about the Mendelssohn on Mull festival, which  is where I'm heading to at the end of the month. The Isle of Mull - a   Hebridean Island off the west coast of Scotland - has earned a reputation as the premier wildlife tourism destination in the UK and thousands flock every year to catch a glimpse of the celebrated birds and animals.

Whilst on Mull I'll have to fit in a trip to the  white sands and crystal blue waters of Calgary Bay.

Calgary is situated on  the north west of the island and  is about 12 miles from the island's capital Tobermory. It  is framed by hills, and craggy headlands that create a breath-taking sweep into the Atlantic ocean.

The name Calgary comes from the Gaelic meaning Beach of the Meadow and the bay  is home to a range of water sports. Marine life is abundant here and  dolphins, seals and otters are regularly spotted when sailing.
